Drive-thru & returns available

Customers may pick up requested items and return borrowed items to the Westerville Public Library. 

  • Drive-up window is open Monday thru Saturday, 9am-6pm. When you arrive, call 614-259-5035. 
  • Return bin is only open Monday thru Saturday, 9am-6pm. (You do not need to call when returning items.)
  • Wait for an email or phone notice confirming your item is ready for pickup before coming to the library. 
  • Library building remains closed. 

This level features contact-less service for the health and safety of our community. Customers are encouraged to reserve items online or by calling 614-882-7277 ext. 2. Please be patient and expect delays as we adhere to best practices.

FAQs

Requesting Items

I want to borrow an item. What should I do?

  1. Place a hold online or by calling 614-882-7277 ext. 2.
  2. Expect delays due to limited staffing, high demand, and quarantined materials.
  3. Wait for an email or phone notice confirming your item is ready for pickup.
  4. You will have 4 days to pick up your item.

I requested an item, but I haven’t received my notification yet. Is something wrong?

At this time, we are estimating a delay of 2-14 days for reserved items. This is due to limited staffing, high demands, and quarantined materials. Please wait until you receive an email or phone notice that your item is ready for pickup before coming to the library. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Can I get new books and movies?

Yes! The library has begun to order and receive shipments of new items as they are released by publishers. Some release dates have changed. Please expect delays due to limited staffing, vendor availability, and quarantined materials.

Can I request items via SearchOhio and OhioLINK?

Yes. Both services are currently available. 

Drive-Thru Reserves

My items are ready for pickup. What should I do?

  1. Visit the library during open hours, Monday-Saturday from 9am-6pm.
  2. Enter the main parking lot via Walnut St and Library Rd.
  3. When you arrive, call 614-259-5035.
  4. Tell us your library card number or provide other identifying information as requested.
  5. Drive up to the window.
  6. Pick up the items with your name from the table.

Don’t have a cell phone or car? Please wear a face covering when approaching the window.

I usually have items delivered to my school. Can I pick them up at the library instead?

Yes! You may pick up items at the drive-thru window within 4 days once you receive the message that it is "ready for pickup".

I am unable to use the drive-thru.

We understand that you may not be able to use the drive-thru service for a variety of reasons. If that is the case, please contact us to discuss options: 614-882-7277 ext. 2 or customerservices@westervillelibrary.org

I am unable to wear a face covering. 

If you are unable to wear a face covering and need to approach the drive-thru window, please contact us to make alternative arrangements.

Are there any items I can’t borrow at this time?

Currently, the following items are unavailable to borrow: art prints, guitars, learning kits, and puzzles.

Returning Borrowed Items

Return your borrowed items in the cardboard bin, located near the covered parking garage and main entrance. (This option is only available Monday-Saturday 9am-6pm.)

I have an overdue item. How long do I have to return it?

You can return overdue items during open hours. If the library was recently closed due to an alert level 4, you will have a 10-day grace period once we reopen to return your items.

We understand that these are unusual times. If you are unable to return items, please contact us to discuss options: 614-882-7277 ext. 2 or customerservices@westervillelibrary.org.

Seniors & homebound individuals who rely on our delivery service – you may wait until the Outreach Department contacts you to arrange for pickup of your items. You do not need to make arrangements to return items to the library building at this time.

Are you accepting book donations?

No, not yet.

I’m concerned about returning my borrowed item in the designated return bin. 

We know that some items - like art prints & guitars – may not fit. Please contact us for alternative options: 614-882-7277 ext. 2 or customerservices@westervillelibrary.org.

I have a damaged item.

Please contact us at 614-882-7277 ext. 2 or customerservices@westervillelibrary.org. We can work with you to arrange a time for you to drop off the item for assessment. Or we can charge your account for its full replacement and you can pay the fee online.

How long will returned items be kept in quarantine?

For the health & safety of our community, we will be keeping all returned items in quarantine for at least 10 days. After that time, the items will be checked in and made available to others waiting.

I returned an item, but it’s still checked out to me.

We appreciate your patience as we work to check in borrowed items. All borrowed items will remain in quarantine for at least 10 days. If an item that you returned is still appearing on your account after 10 days, please contact us at 614-882-7277 ext. 2 or customerservices@westervillelibrary.org.

I have borrowed items from other libraries that are not open yet. Can I return those items to you?

We are only able to accept items that were originally checked out with your Westerville Library card (including SearchOhio and OhioLINK items). We are currently unable to check in and return borrowed items from other area libraries.

What safety guidelines are in place?

The library continues to follow recommendations from government officials, health officials, the Ohio Library Council, and the REALM project while planning a responsible restart to operations. Library staff will stagger shifts, wear face coverings, maintain social distancing, wash hands, perform daily symptom assessments, and disinfect common areas. Returned items will be quarantined for at least 10 days before they are made available to others.

Our top priority remains the community’s health and safety as we plan for a responsible restart to operations. Recommendations from government officials, local authorities, and health departments related to COVID-19 will continue to guide our decisions over the coming weeks and months.

I want a library card! How do I get one? 

Fill out this online form. Then we'll contact you within 72 hours with your new library card number. You will receive your physical library card in the mail within 4 weeks. At that time, you can request items for pickup via drive-thru, open Monday thru Saturday, 9am-6pm.

When are my items due?

Please check your online account or call the library to confirm your due dates.
